Biography

I have a multi-disciplinary arts background; originally a designer and maker of theatrical costume, fantasy interiors and stage-set, studying BA Fashion and Textiles at Brighton University (please refer to my main webpage for an in depth profile); touring with dance promoters like Goa Trance, Tribe and The New DEA. (Unfortunately the arthritis set in and it all became too much of a challenge.) Though, I still produce theatrical creations as private commissions as well as those for my own performance installations, please contact me for information.

In addition to this, I trained as a stone-carver; completing my BA (hons) FineArt and Humanities at the University of Wolverhampton; specializing in slate memorial and relief carving, which I now teach at craft workshops. Whilst many of my Land Art pieces have been site-specific featuring at Festivals and Music events both nationally and Internationally. More recently I completed my 'Masters in Arts', graduating in film, installation and
digital media. I also currently exhibit artwork and installations with several art groups.

As an enviromentally concerned artist in both an ideological and literal sense, I am  passionate about the influence of sustainability in my artwork. Consequently, I strive to use recycled materials, earth salvage, assorted textiles and findings along with natural objet d'art, throughout my artistic practice wherever possible.

At present I am setting up my artist studio and online store, where I sell exclusive costume, recycled couture and accessories, eco-craft, hand-made jewellery, sculpture (various wood, stone) and recordings of audio sound journeys or installation compositions.

'Since the birth of humanity we have our dances to the hunted animals, chants to the rain gods, magical paintings on stone, myths told and retold over the proverbial tribal fire; all are stories, journeys that bind us to our beliefs, to our world, threads that weave us through time and place, it is in this place where art and ritual are as one that I find myself.

About the Artist

I have known AndromedaHeightz for many years now in the capacity as artist; leading various art workshops and community projects (with some of the most challenging of individuals!); but also as an awe inspiring, creative friend.

Andromeda often refers to herself as a 'multi-disciplinary, creative practioner' and classifies her artwork within a ‘socially interactive and environmentally concerned bracket.’ She describes herself as a public artist, who creates a type of ‘holistic art’.

Her aim is to explore, address and heal our relationship with nature, each other and ultimately with ourselves. She is deeply committed to her art projects, raising awareness and funds for numerous charitable organisations and environmental campaigns.

Andromeda's roots stem from a vibrant multi-cultural and ethnically diverse background (it seems like every nationality and spiritual belief can be found in her family, and i'm not joking!); where the 'Art(s)' are definitely a communal melting pot.

Throughout her life Andromeda has researched (often living and working amongst) how different cultures; past and present, have identified 'Art' as sacred and how ‘Art’ is an effective vehicle for understanding humanity across the globe.

Her artwork has a root language, using symbols, totem and icon imagery which can appeal to and be interpreted by a universal audience; as she is adamant that art can be a tool to create consideration and inclusivity in our societies.

Throughout her art projects; her exhibitions, installations and festivals Andromeda works in close relationship with her audience, she would say that without them the work can not really exist. And most importantly she believes that 'Art' can be appreciated on many levels and can be created by all people.
